Yesterday morning I woke up to the very sad news that one of my favorite fashion designers, Oscar de la Renta, died yesterday with complications from cancer at his home in Connecticut at the age of 82.
I have always been a big Oscar fan. I loved his impeccable sense of style and the ability to be an old school gentleman and at the same time very contemporary. His broad smile conveyed a joyful personality.
Oscar’s dresses and gowns are the very personification of elegant dressing. I’ve loved most of his collections over the last 10 years and when I’m being at my most elegant it’s often in an Oscar creation.
The New York Times Fashion & Style announced just last Monday that Peter Copping would become the new Creative Director at Oscar de la Renta. Peter was the former Artistic Director at Nina Ricci.
RIP Oscar de la Renta – you will be missed…July 22, 1932 – October 20, 2014
