Last weekend was the Design on a Dime Miami charity event. As I mentioned in my January 6th blog, this design focused charity has been a major annual event in New York for the past 13 years. internationally acclaimed interior designer, James Huniford is the Founding Chairman and Design on a Dime's mission is to eradicate HIV/AIDS in New York by 2020. Branching out for the first time to Miami the goal is to eradicate HIV/AIDS in Miami by 2025.
Held on two floors of the Moore building in the Miami Design District, my design studio along with 23 other top interior designers put together individual vignettes. With my project manager, Sabir Amen we created a luxuriously cozy study, which included a shagreen-topped games table and a Jean Michel-Frank inspired lounge chair covered in ultra-luxe cashmere. Deciding against the more typical South Florida tropical shades we captured a sophisticated palette of silver, taupe, pale blue, lavender and pumped it up with 2 big pops of red.
Held over three days, the Chairman's Preview on Friday was the premier event, giving major ticket holders an exclusive first look at all the fabulous furnishings and accessories that would be available to purchase the following evening at drastically reduced prices!
On Saturday at precisely 6:30 the sale was on and all the vignettes were ripped apart in what seemed like a matter of minutes! If you couldn't take it with you AirSea Packing was on hand to schedule deliveries. Our room was a huge hit and everything sold soon after the ribbon was cut to begin shopping!!
Rock star Lenny Kravitz was our special guest and received the "Giving by Design" award for his work on behalf of HIV/AIDS.
I received word today that we raised over $300,000 - yay!!
