Design for Living: Gracious Living in a Brooklyn Brownstone

The 15th anniversary of DCI seemed the perfect moment to update and relaunch the website.  It's now much easier to navigate not just the website, but also linking to Instagram, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Houzz and signing up for the My Perfect World Blog.

The website Homepage has also been changed and now opens with photos of a recently completed residential project that turned out spectacularly well!  A 25-ft wide 5-storey brownstone located in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn underwent a full-on gut renovation.  Significant architectural features original to the house were kept and enhanced; re-finishing the fireplaces, wide oak plank floors, staircase, and restoring the intricately carved oak inner double doors.

In keeping with the period of the brownstone and our clients' preferences, we decided on a classic interior design approach, incorporating timeless classics such as a chesterfield sofa, wingback armchairs, ottomans, slipper chairs, antique oushak rugs, contemporary and antique crystal chandeliers.  Pops of color and bold patterns against the backdrop of a soft cool paint palette give the interiors a relaxed elegance, making the perfect setting for a young family.

The new generous sized eat-in kitchen, featuring classic handmade cabinets painted creamy white, Calacatta Gold marble countertops & backsplash, large picture window and pocket doors separating the dining room is a true show-stopper!

The custom marble master bathroom, another major addition to the brownstone's renovation, includes both a state of the art shower and classic clawfoot tub, seamlessly bringing together old and new world sensibilities.

Although I prefer living horizontally to vertically, after being involved with this project I really appreciate the appeal of brownstone living.  On this scale, it's gracious living indeed!
