I took last week off from blogging and all things work related to enjoy a relaxing vacation at the CuisinArt Golf & Spa Resort in Anguilla, an elegant resort nestled in the island's crescent curve of Rendezvous Bay. Philippe and I can't actually remember the last time we were on a resort (it was that long ago!) and were pleasantly surprised to land in such a sophisticated and relaxed setting.
CuisinArt's architecture is classic Mediterranean-style whitewashed villas, surrounded by an abundant landscape of native plants, palms and jasmine scented flowering trees. We chose a suite with views of the dazzling cerulean crystal-clear ocean gently rolling along the edge of the pristine, powder-fine white sand beach.
Along with a world class Greg Norman designed 18-hole golf course, award winning Venus Spa and numerous water/sports activities, the resort boasts 4 restaurants; Le Bistro at Santorini, Italia, Café Mediterraneo and Tokyo Bay. Each has a distinctive menu, with signature dishes that include ingredients picked from the resort's own hydroponic farm and vegetable garden. We were impressed by, not only the inspired cuisine with extensive accompanying wine lists, but also the attentive staff. Le Bistro and Italia became our favorites...
What I found particularly intriguing was CuisinArt's innovative and sustained efforts as an eco friendly Caribbean resort. As explained on its website..."Leading the way with energy efficiency, the resort has had its own Reverse Osmosis plant to create potable water for the Resort and the island residents. The Hydroponic Farm, the first in the world when the Resort was built in 1999, saves water through the use of recirculation systems and drip irrigation, recycling drainage to feed the outdoor plants." An extensive solar panel system was recently added that provides energy for the Resort's Reverse Osmosis plant.
Being at CuisnArt off-season allowed us easy access to the best restaurants around Anguilla and welcome trade winds that kept the temps at a balmy 88 degrees! CuisinArt was close to paradise and turned me into a believer of resort-style vacations...looking forward to our next visit.
