The Kips Bay Decorator Showhouse for 2017 opened on May 2nd in a grand neo-Georgian townhouse built by Architect Charles Platt in 1905. Until very recently it was home to the China Institute.
My favorite room situated on the garden level, is an invitingly glam lounge and powder room designed by Litchten Craig Architecture. During my visit The Rolling Stones were playing on the turntable setting the perfect vibe.
Litchten Craig had their work cut out for them with a low ceiling, no natural light and exposed overhead pipes to contend with. They successfully reimagined the space by creating an intimate environment, using generous layers of lush fabrics, entirely covering the walls in Dedar's luxe Regato, a pair of antique Charles Ramos chairs covered in champagne silk and plush carpeting. The drinks cabinets' metal grille fronts framed by bronze metal strips set against the black lacquer millwork, along with shimmering gold and sparkling crystal accessories throughout added a sexy 'speakeasy' glamour. Stanley-Wise Photography

Richard Mishaan Design's classically appointed Parlour Room is anchored by an exquisite custom wallpaper made by Iksel and a jewel-toned Turkish rug. Rich layers of textiles and decorative art pieces gives one the sense of a room filled with world-class treasures collected over time. Alan Barry Photography

Susan Ferrier of McAlpine's 'Moonlight in the Forest' master bedroom is awash in fur ottomans, cushions, the bed's headboard and sheepskin throw on this side of the room. The Jonathan Browning chandelier is the centerpiece of all the intense drama. Peter Morgonelli Photography
The cozy sitting area on the other side of the Susan Ferrier bedroom features a tailored pair of chaise longues placed opposite each other, offset by an eclectic mix of collectibles. A standout salon wall surrounds the fireplace. Peter Morgonelli photography
