Multi-experience retail emporiums driven by a particular designer's point of view have become quite the thing. Last week I talked about Gucci Garden and this week, much closer to home is Roman & Williams Guild NY.
The highly regarded Roman & Williams design duo Robin Stander & Stephen Alesch are best known for their singular rustic, romantic, vintagey design aesthetic, which they brought to the interiors of such hip and happening restaurants as The Breslin, Lafayette, The Dutch, Upland and Le Coucou.
Guild NY is a lifestyle store that includes furniture, accessories, textiles, tabletop, lighting; a library featuring Phaidon books and a florist run by Emily Thompson Flowers. There's also Le Mercerie Café run by Chef Marie Aude Rose. She cooked for Spring bistro in Paris owned by her future husband Daniel Rose, the internationally acclaimed chef who’s now at the helm of the much coveted French restaurant Le Coucou in Soho.
Soft lighting, tonal wood finishes punched up with plush aqua velvet upholstery enhance this cozy destination, making it the ideal setting, particularly on bleak winter days to get comfortable, hang out, have a meal and indulge in a little retail therapy that includes buying the restaurant's very table settings..
