I don’t believe there’s anyone on this planet who will be sorry to see 2020 in their rearview mirror. It’s been a difficult and exhausting year to say the least. So, here we are looking forward to ringing in 2021. And, as always I share my favorite champagnes to see the New Year in with.
As many of us prepare to spend another special occasion social distancing at home, my thoughts turn to what to wear to toast the New Year that’s more chic than athleisure, yet just as relaxed and comfortable? I’ve been following Banke Kuku, a Lagos based designer who’s blazing a sartorial trail with her stunning loungewear. Banke grew up in London, studied fine arts at Central St Martins and earned her textile and fashion degree at Chelsea College of Art & Design.
Banke a textile artist, developed her textiles, finding inspiration through telling the story of Africa with dynamic prints. The lush 100% silk satin fabrics are sourced by her London agent, manufactured in Lagos and sold in her namesake boutique. Explaining her process to Vogue UK, “Textiles are my canvas…I work digitally so there’s no limitation on colors tones or prints. Unlike weaving it’s quick to turn my artwork around.”
Here are some bankekuku looks to inspire you to level up your lounging-pyjama game. If these elegant looks are anything to go by, luxury loungewear as evening wear is here to stay.
