I've been decorating a client's Brooklyn brownstone apartment and we're at the final stage of adding the finishing touches.  Her living room bookcase that until now had contained nothing but books presented us with the opportunity to change the dynamic and incorporate some of her favorite accessories and keepsakes among the books.  Decorating bookcases or shelves is a great way to express your creativity and bring an artistic dimension to a room.  Also, as London Interior designer, Kelly Hoppen succinctly puts it, "A beautiful arrangement of accessories on a self is an easy, elegant way to embrace trends and keep your interiors up to date."

My April 2 post was about the quintessential English country house.  The Hamptons weekend summer house is arguably, the North American equivalent.  Habitually Chic had a lovely post this week about Aerin Lauder and her beautiful summer house situated in one of the exclusive Hamptons enclaves.  Aerin's summer house is relaxed, welcoming and understatedly elegant.  The gardens are particularly exquisite with all those gorgeous flowers in full bloom.  The beauty of Aerin's house for me is in her liberal use of simple low maintenance materials like sisal, rattan, beach-grass, along with groupings of blue/white Chinoiserie porcelain, flora and fauna patterned fabrics, against a backdrop of white painted interiors and exteriors.  All of which are elements of the classic Hamptons summer house.  Use one or several of these elements to create your own summer oasis!

My 5 Fave Chandeliers for Spring

Still thinking about Spring and the tweaks that can be made to breathe fresh air into your home, I'm always on the lookout for fabulous ceiling chandeliers and pendants.  This is the piece that establishes the personality of the room and it can be jaw-dropping like the Randy Kemper piece over the dining table in the photo below, or more subtle. While browsing through the stack of magazines lying beside my bed I came across some new designs that really capture the light contemporary mood I've been introducing to my clients. I've also included one perennial favorite, the Grande Charles Balustrade chandelier that has worked well for us above the dining table of a couple of projects.
