As you know I’m always on the lookout for whatever’s unique or exquisite to share with you. La Tuile à Loup, a boutique specializing in hand-crafted aptware, marbleware and pottery, located in the 5th Arrondissement of Paris, certainly fits the bill. La Tuile à Loup was established more than forty years ago and since 2006 has been under the ownership of the very debonair Eric Gougou, following a career in banking.
Each and every bowl, dish, plate, platter, ornament and wicker basket is unique and crafted by renowned artisans across France. With a passion for the history of French ceramic arts and crafts, Eric seeks to maintain and preserve the traditions and artistry of these crafts-men and women.
As Eric recounted to Veranda Magazine…he isn’t in pursuit of trends, but rather, permanence. “The French grew up with aptware, marbleware, and folk art pottery, and have grown to love the elements, the colors, the familiarity,” he says. “They aren’t looking for pieces that feel new. They want well-crafted pottery that fits their daily routines.”
Chatting back and forth with Eric I promised that my first flight (hopefully someday soon) will be to Paris and I’ll be headed directly to his store! The platters are my favorites - just love their individuality and sophisticated patterns.
