I was asked last week what I thought were the current trends in interior design. Unlike with fashion, interior design doesn't have seasonal trends, but themes generally appear first through interior design projects, eventually filtering to the general public via trend driven retail furniture stores like Restoration Hardware, Mitchell Gold, Ligne Roset and ABC Carpet & Home...

Andy Spade At Home With Art
Andy & Kate Spade are currently auctioning off contents from their recently sold Southampton Beach house via Paddle 8, the online auction house. I came across photos of their Manhattan pre-war apartment on the Habitually Chic blog and the thing that struck me is the size of their art collection and their apparent passion for collecting in a very eclectic way. On every available wall hangs at least one artwork and with smaller pieces they hang salon-style. Certainly gave me inspiration hanging artwork for my clients.

Clothes Make the Man - from Shakespeare's Hamlet (paraphrased)
An observation as true today as it was in 1603. We're not necessarily what we wear, however as cues are picked up from dress codes we're in command of our particular message.
London just showed their Men's Fall 2016 collection, and the men's street style seemed to me to be telegraphing the message of self assurance - a sophisticated man-about-town individuality with a marked preference for style over fashion.

We have several trips coming up this year, which includes Southern Italy, one of our favorite places to visit. While flipping through 1stdibs, the online bible for all things vintage and antique last week, I cam across an article with film director, Francis Ford Coppola discussing Palazzo Margherita, his most recently completed hotel venture. Francis Ford Coppola is not only one of the top film makers of our generation, he's also been acquiring over the years his own empire of one-of-a-kind luxury boutique hotels. Who knew...?

I came across some fun and easy to prepare Christmas cocktails on Ladolcevitablog.com that would perfectly complement the glamorous Baccarat crystal barware I was discussing last week. I'm not a big cocktail drinker, however I am intrigued by some of these combinations. Let me know if you make any of them.

The main Art Basel event is held at the Convention Center where there are so many galleries, Philippe and I usually take 2 days to walk through. In the past we've done it in one day, but at some point sensory overload sets in and for me at least, it all begins to blur.

It's finally starting to really feel like Fall and I'm looking for new candles and room fragrances to reflect the season's cozier mood. So, last weekend I headed over to my favorite fragrance emporium, Aedes de Venustas and discovered that after 20-plus years of being the secret jewelbox destination on Christopher Street in the West Village, it has recently moved around the corner to a much more prominent space at 7 Greenwich Avenue.
